Aconite (in common - wolf root, buttercup, wrestler) belongs to the buttercup family. In Greek, the name of the flower means "rock, cliff". The plant became famous in ancient times (the history of the origin is described in ancient Greek and Scandinavian mythologies). There are about 330 species of aconite, with approximately 70-75 preserved in their natural and natural form. Plants are perennials and are able to grow in height up to 260 cm. The flowers grow of irregular shape and are collected in inflorescences (some reach a length of about 50 cm).

Types of Aconite

For the decoration of the suburban area and the creation of picturesque beds, many species of this plant are used. The most popular are several varieties.

Aconite klobuchkovy can be attributed to a complex form, because it combines several small subspecies. The garden variety (A.napellus) with blue flowers is the most popular in the central part of Europe. Solid aconite (A. firmum) and low (A. namum) are planted in the Carpathians, and dense (A. compactum) in the Alps. A wrestler "A.napellus L" is very common, the stems of which grow to a height of up to 1.3 m. The plant is formed in the form of a pyramidal shrub that has dense leaves of a rich dark green shade. The flowers form dense blue-violet or blurry blue inflorescences approximately 10 cm long. The flowering time begins at the end of June and lasts 30-40 days. An important advantage of a garden variety is that it does not require shelter for the winter. A rich variety of species with flowers of a wide range of shades allow using these plantings for multi-colored decoration of garden areas. You can highlight "Carneum" - flowers with pinkish-beige shades, "Eleonora" - the edges of the white petals have a rim of red shade, "Rubelum" stands out with a palette of pinkish tones, "Schneewitchen" is notable for snow-white flowers.

Aconite motley distributed in the European part of Russia, Northern Europe. This perennial plant can grow up to 150 cm. Flowers in loose racemose inflorescences have a blue or dark blue color. The flowering period begins in mid-July and lasts about 30 days.

Aconite Fisher grows in the natural environment in the deciduous and mixed forests of the Far East. This perennial plant can reach a height of 1.6 m. In the autumn additional tubers are formed. The stem of the plant is strong, round and straight. The inflorescence is dissolved from July to October, forming a rare brush of saturated blue, sometimes white shades.

Aconite climbing should be allocated separately. This variety is known for its picturesque and decorative appearance. Stem climbing is able to grow in height by more than 2 m, relying on the neighbors in the area. The shiny leaves of the dissected forms grow 3-10 cm long, and 5-15 cm wide. The flowers have a dark lilac or lilac-green color and are 2-3.5 cm long. The inflorescence blooms from late July and forms a brush or a broom 13 long -20 cm. Elegant flowers adorn the site throughout August.

Features breeding, rules of care

When working with plantings, gloves must be used, since this plant is poisonous (especially tubers, flowers and seeds). After contact with aconite, it is recommended to wash your hands with soap and water.

Breeding methods

Before planting plants on a new site, it is recommended to prepare the ground. For this, the soil is loosened. On heavy clay soils, it is desirable to provide natural drainage by adding sand. To create conditions for better growth, humus is added.

Recommendations for growing

Planting and maintenance do not take a lot of time, since aconite does not require constant attention or special rules of service and rather confidently endures winters, although, for safety, you can cover it with lapnikom. As the flowers open alternately, the withered petals are cut to maintain a beautiful and well-groomed general appearance of the plantations. Two varieties of plants are most in demand:

Aconite cloak

This variety in the care does not cause difficulties - light periodic fertilizing with fertilizers (mineral and organic), soil loosening and mulching are necessary.
During the dry period of summer, more active watering of plantings is required, since one should not allow strong drying out of the soil.

The wrestler grows annually on the affiliated tubers (from three to four pieces), therefore, in order to prevent crowding, the plant is planted, and it is recommended to discard the old tubers. It is advisable to conduct a similar audit every four years.

Aconite winding

For the normal development and growth of this plant is not enough simple twine, tied vertically. The optimal solution is a coarse mesh or lattice pergola, which is set for powerful climbers.

During growth, aconite does not show strong activity, so if there is no desire to equip special facilities, you can plant it next to some tall shrub. This plant does not deliver any harm to its neighbor. But thanks to a long flowering period (about a month), the natural effect of a constantly flowering shrub is created.

The plant is not fastidious in the choice of soil, grows well in shaded areas, so it is easy to take root in the shade of trees. Planting in areas of constant light can cause leaf burns on bright, cloudless summer days.

Rules for watering and feeding

For the normal growth of plants suitable for any soil, with the exception of stony and sandy. The main requirement for the ground - good breathability and ability to hold water. To preserve the moisture and soil looseness, it makes sense to pour the earth to the tubers of the plant or use a special mulch composition (peat with sawdust).

During flowering or during the dry summer period, more active watering of plantings is required, it should not be allowed to dry out strongly. However, we must try to avoid stagnant fluid near the roots. Since excessive moisture can blacken the leaves, which will lead to the death of the plant.

When growing aconites on open ground, the soil is fertilized in several stages:

  • in the beginning of spring organic solutions are used: 2 liters of slurry are dissolved in 10 liters of water;
  • during the formation of inflorescences use nitroammofoskoy - 40 g of the drug is dissolved in 10 liters of water;
  • directly in the flowering period apply phosphate-potassium fertilizer.

If fertilizing is introduced into the soil in a dry form, then the area near the roots will then be watered.

Plant diseases

This flower is sufficiently resistant to disease. However, difficult weather conditions or violations of the rules of courtship (excessive fertilization with nitrogen compounds) can cause powdery mildew. The method of treatment is the elimination of damaged leaves and treatment of the area with fungicides. If you do not want to resort to chemistry, then you can try to spray the plants with whey or wood ash extract, aged for three days.

As a preventive measure, the site should be watered in the early morning so that the soil has time to dry during the day and the tubers do not stay wet on a cold night.

From insects - pests plant strike: aphid, spider mite, rapeseed beetle. Scare away aphids and spider mites by spraying the plants with onion extract.

And to prevent the spread of rapeseed tsvetoeda can be using mixtures with organophosphorus compounds.

As a preventive measure, regular soil loosening is recommended, since the pest pupates in open soil. These preventive measures are especially important to be carried out in the autumn (to exclude the hibernation of insects) and spring (to stop the development of larvae).
