Many people have audio and video equipment, and all have television sets. A small home AV-complex is placed on the wall hanging shelves so as not to occupy useful space. If the area of the room allows or the design is significant in mass (for example, old-style TV), floor stands with shelf-modules are mounted.
Racks, shelves, accessories for equipment (in the language of professionals, "wrecks") have always been. They are developed in accordance with the designer fashion and taking into account the requirements dictated by the features of the equipment. A variety of support surfaces for home audio-video complex is reduced to the following types:
- TV stands;
- stand for Hi-Fi unit;
- racks or shelves for CD and DVD;
- brackets, fittings.
They can be stationary floor or mounted (wall).
The most solid - stands for TVs. Depending on the size and massiveness of the model, they can be up to half a meter wide and made of durable wood or metal. More modern TV is placed on the elegant glass wall shelves with a width of 15-20 centimeters.
Optimum rack dimensions
If possible, supports for the audio complex are selected in accordance with the height of the speakers. To precisely adjust it, adjustable designs are purchased.
As for the shelf under the TV, the center of the screen should be at such a level that the spectator, sitting opposite, did not have to look up, down or to the side, but clearly in the forward direction in front of him.
There are no special conditions for supports for audio equipment. However, if we consider that a serious audio complex includes at least five to seven blocks, the optimal rack height is from 40 to 120 cm.
To create a favorable mode of equipment and sufficient natural cooling at work is not to save at the height of structures.
Deciding what should be a rack or shelf for equipment, take into account the strength and visual appeal. The most popular in the manufacture of shelves materials:
- tree and its derivatives.
Reliable supporting structures are made of steel, aluminum, other metals, wood, metal and plastic.
Looks impressive shelves tempered glass. It is used by many reputable manufacturers: a transparent or matted surface with illumination looks fascinating. The thickness is usually one to two centimeters. Glass shelves in 20 mm can withstand up to 100 kg. However, you need to carefully consider the total weight of the equipment (it is always indicated on the package) and not overload the shelf.
Transparent plastic or plexiglas are less popular. They quickly lose their appearance due to scratches, microcracks, and other similar defects.
In order not to calculate the mass and not worry about the reliability of the shelves on which a massive TV device is installed, most prefer the time-tested metal. This is steel (including stainless or chrome-plated), aluminum and its alloys, metal-plastic.
Combined constructions are in demand, for example, MDF panels sheathed with plywood from hardwood (beech). Wood is used as veneer for decoration and very rarely in solid form. Wealthy people complement the equipment with an exclusive of exotic woods, granite, marble.
Sensitive equipment is adversely affected by shock loads, high and low frequency oscillations. Designers, including those under TV, are struggling with this. Most of the materials mentioned absorb vibration. The exception is metal, which conducts sound vibrations and rings by itself. Sometimes metal pillars in the column stands “sing”.
With flat surfaces harder. It is possible to apply any viscous coating such as rubber or mastic. But it is outwardly unattractive, so at home there is little demand.
The alternative is to choose a "sandwich" from MDF plus metal. Layers are rigidly fastened.
To remove vibrations, TV shelves are equipped with wheels that can be rotated with silicone gaskets or metal spikes.
For maximum reduction in the amplitude of vibrations, spikes are made extremely sharp. But they sank under the weight of technology, which reduces vibration insulation and damages the flooring. Therefore, under the thorn enclose the hole-support. All these nuances are unnecessary in the case of structures made of wood or plasterboard.
If possible, shelves or racks should be chosen in accordance with the general style of the room. So for a room decorated in hi-tech, minimalism, techno, suitable metal or glass construction. For classic, Scandinavian, country styles organic will be wood or drywall.
The variety and affordability of materials, designs allow you to choose the most appropriate individual option. The main thing is to take into account the features of the equipment and the ultimate strength of the support on which it will stand.
